LAS VEGAS — Calling it a “toy for adults,” GM on Monday took the wraps of the Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Concept at the 2011 SEMA Show. The one-off custom car gets a show-stopping green-over-chrome exterior paint job inspired by the metallic Spectraflame paint finishes of the original toy cars.

“The Spectraflame paint and redline tires of those first Hot Wheels cars have been the dreams of guys for generations and it was thrilling to inject these elements into a Camaro for real,” said Felix Holst, vice president of design for the Mattel Wheels Division in a statement.

Hot Wheels will offer a collector’s edition 1:64-scale model based on the concept later this month.

The Hot Wheels Web site explained that the concept was sprayed on a “rotisserie” to achieve just the right look.

“The team absolutely nailed it perfectly,” said Phil Zak, GM design director in a statement.

The concept car features the “Over Chrome Green” paint with ghosted Hot Wheels logo on the quarter panels. Satin black ground effects on the splitter, rocker and rear fascia side extensions provide accent touches. The satin black wheels get a Torch Red stripe.

Other details include a Hot Wheels badge on the deck lid, Euro-style taillamps with new inner smoked lends and a ZL1 rear spoiler.

The cabin gets Hot Wheels embroidered logos on the front seatbacks, a black leather-wrapped instrument panel with Torch Red accents and a Chevrolet Accessories pedal kit.

The concept is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine linked to a Tremec six-speed manual transmission.

The original Custom Camaro from 1968 is one of the most coveted Hot Wheels toys among collectors. That year Hot Wheels produced all the Custom Camaro models with Spectraflame paint — except for one version in white enamel.
