Hooked On Pinterest!

Hooked On Pinterest!

I admit it… I am hooked on Pinterest.  What makes it so darn addicting?  To visual people, it is a virtual smorgasbord of sights, colors, ideas and you can count me into this giant playground of eye candy.  Business’s are quickly jumping on the band wagon although the clearly are still trying to figure out exactly how to align it with their business.  I’ve seen a bevy of Etsy artists already using it to display their designs.  I have been on for almost 6 months, but only the last few weeks has brought the treasures I am now seeing.  It can be hard to get a grasp of how and who to follow when you first join, so I have been gathering lists from around the web to share with you.  Please, if you have others you love and  want to share leave them in the comments… after all… one can never have too many Pinterest friends!

Gap has gone fairly simple (but hardly boring) with the platform thus far, mixing it up with pinboards like “Snow” and “Candy” – both of which align well with their brand but aren’t directly salesy.

Pottery Barn Kids is focused entirely on the greater benefits of the products they sell. They include pinboards designed for upcoming holidays (Valentine’s Day), sneak previews of new products, and other items mommies are sure to love.

Nordstrom isn’t doing anything especially unique, but they have one of the larger brand followings and lots of re-pinning going on with their ultra-loyal and highly-affluent fan base.

Whole Foods just plain gets it – they don’t appear to be promoting their own products on Pinterest at all. Instead they’re bringing new ideas to their socially-conscious customer centered around gardening, recycling, holidays, and art.

Martha Stewart  Her page is filled with enticing images of savory treats, she is on the verge of 15K followers, and everything just seems to fit.

The Travel Channel is utilizing the tool to display panoramic photos from around the world, and they’re also providing exclusive behind-the-scenes content from various programs.

Real Simple uses pinboards to promote new ways to use old things, problem-solving products, and daily deals.

The Today Show provides a place for fans to connect around the subjects of their show on an ongoing basis – a great way to leverage the tool in real-time.

Southwest Airlines actively links to and displays travel tips and inspiring quotes, both of which are required to get through the awful experience of flying (especially in the winter). Two thumbs up.

The Seattle Seahawks are making a splash on Pinterest.  They’re up and running and using it to visually depict the sights and sounds of the stadium.

Carlo’s Bakery, which was made famous on TLC’s “Cake Boss”, is utilizing Pinterest to show off their innovative high-end cakes.

Michaels is another seemingly perfect fit for Pinterest, displaying hundreds of ideas for arts and crafts during any given season.

Pillsbury is using the platform to bring fresh ideas for using their product at home, and has appropriately named their page “PillsburyIdeas”.

Lowe’s is a bit of an awkward brand for the platform at this point, but they’re doing their best to engage with the female portion of their audience. Their page may be a little too cutesy and craft-oriented to represent their brand appropriately the male audience.
