Cartier continues to amaze and inspire me with their artful commercials. Another hit the air this week and it falls right under Take My Breath Away. They show once again, commercials can be classy, tasteful and intelligent. Bravo Cartier!
Maybe someone else has put this in the comments. You might like to know that Cartier has added to their website a detailed presentation of the making of L’Odyssee and explanation of the themes, images and music. Some of this relates to historic jewerly and will be of interest to artists and craftsmen. Animal lovers will also want to visit.
I concur with everyone who was blown away by this exquisite, artistic commercial, which is really like nothing I’ve seen before. We recorded the show it was on and are keeping it so we can rewatch (which we already have several times). The whole piece is sensual and transporting, including the original music. I suggest you go to odyssee.cartier.us/ to see it on full screen, along with featurettes about the making of, the panthers, etc. Very beautiful and interesting.
Thank you everyone for your wealth of comments. I see many points of view throughout them. I posted the commercial not a economic statement, but rather as a piece of art. Art and beauty do not have to be bought, paid for, or even owned to enjoy. I personally look for the beauty within every person I meet and everything I see. While my bank account may not afford what Cartier is selling in this, it made me smile and I am richer for having seen this beautiful commercial.
If there was an academy award for commercials, this would take the accolade.
The most stunning cinematography, congratulations to the DOP, the visual effects work is breathtaking, the music track perfect, direction sublime and the narrative is in perfect sync with the message. Without doubt the most stunning commercial I have ever seen and appreciate the work all the artists and crew who worked on it would have put into it.
This has got to be the most magnificent commercial I have ever seen. I watch it constantly. In the end when she puts her hands on that cat I get goosebumps every time. It is spectacular- and “Bravo Cartier” is an absolute understatement.
What a spectacular commercial. All the glitz and glamounr that is noted as a Cartier trademark. I seen this commercial on March 4, 2012 for the first time and I get on line a few times a day just to rewatch its splendor. BRAVO CARTIER!!!!!
My husband rewound it and said”this is you, up and down” We taped it to enjoy as much aswe want. Like a beautiful movie! Like a Chanel commercial, only better. I thought it was Baz Luhrmann!
Absolutely wonderful commercial. No, I cannot afford Cartier. But, I can’t afford a Van Gogh either. Doesn’t mean It is any less a beautiful piece of art becasue I can’t buy it. It is appealing to the eye, ear and senses.
@Dastoria &Daniel,Sorry to dissapoint ur bleeding hearts but that 1% of ” rich” people most of them earned that money. Also Cartier gives portions of their profits to charities & holds events where ” rich”people donate and raise awarness.Stop blaming rich people for everyone elses problems,I feel for suffering people too.I wont close off my soul & stay miserable b/c of it.Thats all, cry me a river
That was such a phenominal, beautiful work of art. My 12 year old daughter called me in to see it because she was so amazed. I understand that this economy is in somewhat of a crises, but do know this…I will never through away my Cartier to make a point or to be a martyr. By the way, I am not wealthy.
The beautiful music drew me in from another room to see what was playing on TV. I rewound to the beginning and watched in amazement only to find it was a commercial but no ordinary one. What a sensual treat! It doesn’t compel me to run out and own Cartier, though; I’m happy just listening and watching.
Our comments are about a very unusual piece of art. The celebration of the art in this commerical and in the jewelry it advertizes, is the celebration of extreme craftmanship. We need to say bravo for excellence. Indulgence? Maybe. But it is that 1% of the population that you harp about which most heavily assists the least fortunate.
What a magical spectacle!! Who cares if they pander to the wealthiest 1%?
The images of the leapard set against exotic scenarios from around the globe was mesmerizing and stunning to watch. It sparks the imagination which fuels the creative spirit in all of us. BRAVO!!!
Creativity at its best. Something we all have lost but need so desperately. Seriously, do we need a commercial about less privilaged people who want to buy Cartier? I can’t afford it but it gives me something to strive for. Plus it made me go to the site and find out I can actually buy a gorgeous bracelet and money goes to charity. Absolutely gorgeous!
Self indulgent, obscene, self absorbed, offensive, sickening, disgusting, repulsive, and that is only the beginning. With our society and culture struggling to deal with a wealth gap that has 1% living in surreal opulence, 79% getting by, and 20% failing to survive for the most part, Cartier celebrates indifferent wealth. If I owned anything by Cartier, I would throw it out. The only thing they did right was to debut it on The Apprentice, as how that celebrates the empty wealth of Trump, and celebrates undeserved power and notoriety as shown by his worthless off spring who have achieved nothing, yet who stand in judgement of people who have forged careers through talent and hard work.
Daniel, you have some real problems with recognizing beauty when you see it. You look at something that is truly remarkable for a jewelry company to show. Agree, they have the money to put on such a commercial from the sale of high priced, beautiful items. I know that I will never be able to buy from them but that doesn’t bother me. I worked hard all my life to get what little I have, but do not resent those who can afford it. You need to relax and realize that you will have this life but once and not be bitter because you don’t have it all.
Does EVERYTHING always have to come back to the 1% vs 99%? Can we as a society not for a minute step back appreciate life whether it is our own or the fantasy developed by Cartier? We all understand there is an economic crisis in America but would it be your suggestion that companies no longer advertise their products in the most beautiful way possible? For goodness sakes Daniel, they are Cartier not Casio. What would you suggest their commercial look like.
@Daniel,you sound like a miserable person who lacks passion, creativity & imagination.Yes the world is finacial mess & lots of people r suffering me included. So its only human to indulge in this fantasy for a few minutes, it made my day this ad.Im not superficial or shallow, if you had common sense ud realize that. It is targeted at rich people but that doesnt mean we cant enjoy its extravagance &magical feel.Get a better attitude,Im sick of people bitching n wining.Stay strong& open ur mind, its ok to indulge ur sense a little geeze
Daniel, I cannot disagree with you, as this commercial is nothing more than proof that a company supported by the rich is getting so rich that they can afford to fill 3 1/2 minutes of commercial space with their one commercial.
On the other hand, I have to admit that this is a super creative and artful commercial. If this commercial were not just a sign of the vast gap between the uber rich and the rest of us it would just be a really great commercial.
Very beautiful commercial. Yes, I too was mezmerized , but I was also saddened. Notice that the images of priviledge, power and wealth are classic and historic or mythic images of France, Russia, China, tropical Asia (the reptiles in the vines) and India. These today are the dominant growing markets for luxury goods. It is sad that an image of America does not fit into that scenario.
Holy Cartier…..there still is real imagination, class and style. I am so amazed when I watched this artful commercial aired this week. Saw it following The Donald Trump’s Show. It’s mesermizing…….and what woman wouldn’t like it!
Three Cheers to CARTIER for a breathaking commercial.

I have never seen a commercial I enjoyed so much as the Cartier commercial. Absolutely stunning, beautifully filmed, message was artfully given, and even though it was probably the longest I have ever seen, my husband and I had our eyes glued to the screen until the very end. Bravo and Will Done!
Dastoria, thank you for being a voice of sanity and reality on a thread that is beyond belief in its vapid stupidity. Cartier should be ashamed for their celebration of indifferent wealth.
vapid stupidity? Maybe some people prefer to look at something beautiful and appreciate it instead of being so critical. Yes I agree that the state of the world is unfortunate, but being a grump about everything is only going to give you a coronary. Injustice is going to happen- i hate it as well, and believe me i want to do something about it. But ultimately there is no person on the planet that can do anything about it permanently.
So just sit back and enjoy the art of the advertisement (or anything else for that matter) it’s going to be there whether you like it.
I don’t generally sit through advertisements but this one was kept me right there. It was stunning, enchanting and what a wonderfully brief escape into a magical world of beauty real and inspired by people with kaleidoscope eyes. I loved it. SO there you have it!!!!
The production values of this commercial are amazing in it must have been very expensive.
All I could keep thinking about while it evolved into jewels, are the millions of starving children with flies around their faces.
@Paula Boaz – If you felt the fact the commercial was slow you missed the whole point. Most people tune out commercials but the building tension drew your eyes to the screen and made you want to know what it was all about. I honestly thought it was one of the best commercials I’ve ever seen.
While you were impatiently waiting for the”point” you were missing the the beauty. The fact that Cartier was not force feeding you their product was admirable. I’ll watch this commercial again thanks to DVR and applaud Cartier’s imagination and choice.
I’m with Dr. Fuller – THAT was the most amazing commercial I have ever seen in my life!
I have no doubt in my mind that L’Odyssée de Cartier commercial is in a class by itself.
Amazing.
WOW!!!!!! I just saw the Cartier commercial and i was speechless….WOW that was beyond amazing!! It gave me chills, it made me dream, and yes it made me feel my breath exhale…..everything that is enchanting (the exotic cat, the snow, the horses, the diamonds, the gold dragon, the visual affects, the travel to the most beautiful places in the world….) Oh my, If only i could afford just a stick of that jeweled cat..Wow.
I’ve never seen a commercial that made me feel like i was there. thats an award of excellence that has to be handed to Cartier !!
The Cartier commercial didn’t get to the point quickly enough. You lost me. The cat was magnificent – why not have the jewelry on the paw – have the camera zoom in and have the cat lick the watch then flash to the elegant woman? You took us for a long trip and I impatiently waited for you to get to the point. I almost used the remote to change stations! We know Cartier stands for elegance with jewelry – but I kept wondering when you were going to get to the point! Whoever thought up this concept was way overpaid!!!
While it was a visually impressive commercial, what the heck was the point? What a waste of money, I’m pretty sure they didn’t reach any new customers watching crappy prime time american tv.
THE CARTIER COMMERCIAL involving the beautiful wildcat is absolutely fabulous. Such lovely fantasy. I actually got up off of my chair and stared . Congrats, Cartier!
I thought this commercial was absolutely visually stunning. I sat there with my mouth open and couldn’t take my eyes off of it, and as soon as it was over, I paused the program I was watching and immediately started searching for it on the web. I’m thrilled to have found a copy and look forward to enjoying this visual orgasm again and again.
